About Emily

Emily is an English barrister based in London. After studying law (including the post-graduate BCL degree) at Christ Church, Oxford, she was called to the Bar by Lincoln’s Inn in 1995.

​

She is an expert in trusts, tax and pensions law, and spent 27 years at a leading Chancery Chambers in London, before moving to the international law firm Charles Russell Speechlys in 2023. She now works in the firm’s innovation department on the development of AI-powered lawtech software.

In her capacity as advocate, Emily has appeared many times before the Courts of England and Wales, including the Supreme Court. She is the author of numerous articles and of the book Changing the Terms of Trusts (Butterworths, 2002) and is a contributor to several publications including Halsbury’s Laws of England (LexisNexis) and International Trust Laws (OUP).

 

Emily’s interest in mathematics and computer science goes back to her school days in the 1980’s. In 2024, after studying in her spare time, she completed an Open University degree in mathematics and in the autumn of 2025, she commenced a PhD course in Natural Language Processing/Computational Jurisprudence at the Open University’s School of Computing and Communications. She is a member of the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications.​

Emily is co-founder and assistant editor of the legal knowledge website www.pensionsbarrister.com. She is a junior managing editor of the Journal of Cross-disciplinary Research in Computational Law.
